Best insurance company for those of us who chop and change?
Discussion
Hi there
Am shortly about to put recently purchased shed on the road. I'll probably only run this car for a few months at most (I bought it cheap needing work and will run it for a bit before selling it on) and then will sell it for something else.
In the past I've been hit with big "admin" charges by insurers for changing cars, does anyone have experience of insurers who aren't too extortionate when you chop and change?
Cheers
Brian

For me Privilege was alright, not too bad for admin charge (about £15 i think). However, stupidly went for a new cheapest insurer through a broker last time which was great on my Alfa 156 V6 (£330 FC) now gone up to double that on my E36 328i!!! The admin charge was £50 to change it!!! Robbing gits. Should have cancelled it there and then but was picking the car up at the time and had little choice. Still debating what to do as its going to be in the region of £100ish just to cancel the policy (pay monthly).
Insurers are generally waaaay better than brokers (hence my current problem) as they will fix you up with whoever is cheapest, however they will almost definitely not be cheapest on a different car and if you change to a cheaper policy, even if you stick with the same broker, you will have to cancel the policy and lose any accrued new claims. With an insurer direct, their prices are generally either competitive or not on most cars.
Most places will start asking questions if you change more than 4-5 times in a year (as i have been known to do sometimes). Despite the ridiculous fees they charge they don't seem to like you changing cars much as, thinking that you might be 'in the trade'.
If i was 'in the trade' and only selling 1 car every 3-4 months i'd be quickly out of business!
