Or something like a trolley or bike accident?

Looks deliberate to me - like someone's stabbed and dragged a key/pen over it. Is there another tiny scratch underneath running parallel?

kinda looks deliberate, the rake of the grille would make it hard to accidentally leave a scratch like that i would have thought. scrotes last night?

Oh poo, that just makes it worse if it is deliberate.

Looks iffy - hard to scratch like that by accident.

Difficult to say - it could be a key or something, but equally it could be something like a bag dragged along the bonnet with the scratch caused by a zip.

There is no way to possibly tell. But could easily have happened inadvertently.

Looks a bit deep and long for an accidental zip scratch to me.

I would suggest deliberate.

Its too deep and straight to be simply from an accidental zip on a jacket/handbag. I think its vandalism. Real shame, dont know why idiots do it. I also wonder if its just a problem in this country, because my friends/family in American said it doesn't happen to them when they buy nice cars.

Yep, i'd guess vandalism too.

I had one of these on my skoda when it was a few weeks old - made my blood boil with anger. I mean, its a skoda estate FFS! Its not like its a chuffing ferrari or something?! furious

I've had second hand experience of cars being keyed in the US. I think it happens everywhere there are idiots with too much time on their hands. I don't think it's anything to do with "nice" cars either, the only person who I know who's had it happen in the UK was to a thoroughly battered Honda Prelude worth about 500 quid. A Golf like the OP's hardly stands out as ostentatious, either.

Could be the brake lever on a bike.

Looking at those paving slabs, is the car sometimes parked so it could be perceived to be obstructing a footpath? We have issues in our quiet little village where poeple key cars that are parked on the footpath.

I had £200 of ancient vauxhall significantly keyed some years back. The slightly amusing thing was they had to key *around* the rust...

It is parked at work (on private land), I have driven it in this morning, usually I reverse in, so the front is facing a lot of passers by on the pavement, it is not on the pavement however.

I am checking CCTV, but I noticed it this morning at home, which is parked on our driveway with the nose up to the garage door so I don't think it was done there.

Thats looks malicious. frown

I had my E36 keyed twice recently, one at work and once near home. Disgusting.

My E36 work car is a humble old thing, it didn't deserve the thuggery.

Makes me so angry!

Doesn't look accidental, handbag buckles are responsible for a lot of scratches in carparks, but that doesn't look like one.

Do you see the ripples in the middle of the scratch? That suggests it wasn't just a walkby scratching, the person moved or took a step at that point.

It's awful to say it, but a lot of keying is done by the grumpy elderly types.

You don't have to do anything wrong either....

If they want to cross the road and your perfectly parked car is in the way, it's not their fault for crossing at the wrong point, it's yours = your car gets it.

They park badly next to you, leaving no room to open their door, it's not they who parked wrong, it's you = your car gets it.

They trip on a paving slab and land near your car = your car gets it.

As mentioned above, the small village with cars being scratched.... Guarantee it'll be some grumpy old man. Just look out for the one looking at parked cars with his face scrunched up like a dogs backside and that's your culprit.
