The 2.0 Sport of course and have to admit that I fell in love. Was quicker than I expected and turned in so much better than my vrs.

HOWEVER, the pedals are really spaced out that heel and toe is impossible. This has really bothered me as I heel and toe an awful lot and if I can't do it in a 2-seater with the roof off on a hoon has delayed me in making the purchase of said car.

Anybody shared this experience and have any advice (ie. modifying the pedals)?

Cheers!

Don't think heel toe driving is what Mazda had in mind....owned one...it's not a 'proper' sports car you know. Could always buy some chav alloy pedal covers from Halfords and drill the holes needed closer to the edge of the pedal so they end up closer when you put the rip speed covers on.

Never driven a mk3 but could heel and toe with my mk2, I do have fairly big feet though.

You know what they say about guys with big feet wink

Yeah, big shoes !

They're a bit Max Power but you can get pedal extensions that clip or bolt on I believe.

You can probably overcome it with a different heel and toe technique - more angulation or something. The pedals in my daily driver aren't set up for heel and toe, but I find I can do it if I concentrate, it's just not as instinctive as it is in something with really close set pedals.

PS If you think the Mk3 MX5 is good, try a mk3.5 or a mk1/2. biggrin

I could heel/toe in my Mk2 on the one trackday i bothered doing in it, but only with wide trainers on.

Only really worth bothering with if you're tracking it, and even then only if you're going to convert it into a race car and enter the MaX5 championship, and even then it only makes a difference if it's raining.

Thing is, it wasn't the width between the pedals! The throttle is set further back in the footwell so when on the brake, you can't reach the throttle because it's just too far away forwards (if you see what I mean!).

Ah. There is a vague possibility it's adjustable. Perhaps a bit unlikely in a normal production car, but you may be able to bring the throttle stop forward or something. It works on some pedal boxes.

Thanks! I'll have a look.

Thinking about maybe just fixing one of those bolt-on stainless steel pedals onto just the throttle to bring it forward a bit? Would that work?
