I've just got home and opened my insurance renewal quote. It's gone down by almost £200! Does turning 30 make this much difference? If so then at least that's something good about being an old proper grown up man.

Anybody else had their insurance go down recently or is this just a glitch in the matrix?

(PS On my 30th birthday I noticed that I now seem to be growing hair on my ears. Not IN my ears but on the outside bit. I found this quite depressing.)

Its a well known fact that insurance companies can detect nose/ear hair along with grey/white eyebrows and reduce premiums accordingly.

I did find a white beard hair the other day. And weirdly, a ginger chest hair. This all must having something to do with it.

I turn 30 in a few months and have had all of the following hit me this year:

- First white beard hair
- F*k tonnes of nasal hair (like I snorted a bag of weed)
- First grey hair on head
- Put on 1st 7lbs when normally my weight hardly shifts at all! (and grew a pair of hairy tits)

But it will all be worth it come renewal time.....i hope :/

You bloody kids, dunno you're born, wait till you're 40 like me etc. etc... biggrin

Yep, same things here actually. I don't have much hair left so have been shaving my head to grade '0' since I was 28, so if I do have grey hairs, they don't show.

Nose hair - not too bad, nasal hair trimmer required briefly about once a month - I am led to believe this will get more frequent.

Ear hair - luckily at 40 still not an issue for me.

Oh, and as for the original post? Sorry, got sidetracked - yes indeed, the only bonus to getting older is cheaper insurance biggrin

My postcode is quite a good risk for insurance companies, but even so, my Porsche 911 kept on the drive only cost me £360 a year fully comp - including all the bells and whistles like legal cover and courtesy cars etc!

Is that not a false economy in the long run? Are you not building up a no claims. Are you fronting?

I'm not ginger, it was just a rogue ginger hair. I was disgusted with myself for growing it.

Don't worry, I have ginger stubble and sideburns, in the right light my hair looks ginger. Sometimes I want to shoot myself. Still, at least you and I are not "Smelly Gingers" or "Gingers with that ginger person smell"

I work at sea so not in the country 9 months of the year, no point in having my own insurance and also nowhere to store any cheap little car that I can insure for tuppence to get a NCB.

Thank heaven for small mercies etc. Being old AND ginger would be too much to bare. Although having said that, I wouldn't mind swapping garages and bank accounts with Chris Evans.

At least your insurance premiums are good! Try being young and quasi-ginger. Both insurance companies AND girls hate you.

I've just been running some quotes on confused.com and boy was I shocked. I'm 17 and the average quote I've been getting for me being 18 is around £5000! Now all of a sudden I can insure some half decent cars for £1000-£2500???

How is this even possible when only 3 days ago I was getting over 5k for the same car? I didn't even change the details. How the hell does insurance work? I certainly don't know, but the quotes I'm getting now better stay put for when I start driving next year!
