So, following on from the Nurburgring bike video, I thought I'd check to see how slow my bike (a BMW touring bike beloved of retired people touring Europe) was compared to fast cars.

A google for its standing quarter time turns up this video

(skip to 1 minute for the actual runs)

Turns out that my big fat bike plus a bike aimed at riders who've just passed their test both trounce an M3 an the e60 M5.

Of course the proper sportsbike absolutely mullers everything!

Whats my point? Well just that the most mundane of bikes will batter a normal car, and anything decent only need be worried by supercars.

Until it rains of course. Then, you can jolly well wait until I complete the corner in my own time. That means you Mr Hyundai Getz in your stupid pie hat.

Remember when I was learning to ride and I first got on the CB500, it felt epic fast.

And I recall my instructor pointing out that although it is a fairly mundane bike it would take a fast car to match it.

HOWEVER, I wouldn't fancy my chances on my CBR against something like a 458 one bit.

458 fit up the white line, can it?

Well put that way...

but with an open road, off the mark. I think an average rider on a sports bike would be mullered by an average driver in a modern super car.

I know where you're coming from but it's such a broad question with so many variables. I often find the better question is, if i were racing myself, which "me" would win, the supercar or the bike?

Or until you realise you are posting in a car forum, where 99% of people won't care?
