Well my vx220 is on ebay for sale.

Just had somebody wanting to swap it for a 2003 audi a4 cab. It acually sounds a nice car apart from the added chav s line badges. Apparently it has a full service history etc etc etc. The buyer has loads of good feedback.

Anyway i turned it down as i am not really interested in a swap of any sort.

However just been looking back through his feedback and the last item he bought (in november) was a ............

audi service book new blank new unused not duplicate (#320752229577)

Has somebody just tried to have me over with a fake service history??

How dull were they lol. The first thing I do is look at their history.

the service book was bought for my friend who has a 2006 Audi estate, which was missing it's original book. i took this Audi Convertible in an exchange with my Land Rover Discovery this week, as my Discovery was a 4L V8 and a little difficult to sell due to fuel consumption. if you check item number xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx you'll see my Discovery i was selling, i accepted the Audi convertible as i thought it would appeal to more people. i hope that clears things up for you ? thanks again,

Convinved? I'm not!

Surely you could just confirm the services with the garage that did them?

That.

It's quite possible someone would buy a blank service book and then have a legitimate history put back into it (service books get lost).

Frankly I'd always check a service history on a private sale anyway (ring the dealer, they'll confirm if services really happened) because it's easy to fake one (see dealer stamps for sale on eBay too!!).

End of the day I like to see the actual bills (and double check they match the actual car!!) - the service book is just a nice 'quick reference'.

I bought a second hand X3 from a BMW dealer that had FSH. When I came to my second service I'd lost the book. BMW wanted a ridiculous amount for one, so I bought one off ebay for a fraction of the price. Took it back to my dealer and got it stamped with my two services, then had to send it off to a dealer in Scotland who carried out the first 2 services and got them to stamp those in. So it might be genuine.
