A few weeks ago I whacked a topic up on here asking fellow PHers which car I should buy next out of a 325 Compact, Astra GSi, or a Civic Type R. Civic Type R walked it, so I've been looking around for one in budget.

If I can't find a good one in my budget, is there any other cars similar I could look for? I'm 21, price to insure a bog standard VW R32 is £2200 and I wouldn't go higher than that. It has to ave done less than 50k (the less the better) and its gotta be quick. I currently drive a very low Saxo VTS, and while thats a great car but I want something not on coilovers as I don't think my spine can take any more.

So to summarize-

5k or less.
50k or less on the clocks.
Not obscene to insure
Does higher than 30mpg on a run.

Any ideas gents?

Will be hard to find one under 50k on the clock and not sure about insurance but how about a BMW E36 328I coupe?

Great cars.

Do you mean 50K in age or miles, 50K isn't much for a Ford Fiesta (and that would cost £4.5K mint) or anything larger like a VRS.

You could get a clocked one that would work just as well.

No i mean why 50,000 miles, cars today will not change that much between 50,000 and 100,000 miles. If a car has a full service history it means years and/or miles. Either way they age.

This seems to fit the bill.

Or how about this if you can get insured on it.

do cars explode into fiery balls at 50,001 miles?

as you seem new to PH, I will point out that there are a great deal of threads extolling the virtues of high mileage cars; if for nothing else than you can get some lovely high milers for very very cheap. In reality modern cars at 150,000 miles are pretty much the same as cars at 50,000 miles. The things that could possibly be gone on both high mileage cars are pretty much all the same as on low mileage. Just as much chance of having a poor clutch/ bearings/ gaskets etc.
I'm not suggesting getting a mega-miler, just saying that you are missing a whole raft of very very good cars by falling into the standard trap of sticking to low-mileage cars.

Over 30mg on a run? Well this will get 30.1 biggrin
Reliable? YES!
51,000 miles

May be a 4.3 but only group 17 so shouldn't be too bad insurance.

Does cost £5900 though. But its gorgeous!

Some really really interesting cars here! I'd love that lexus more than my OH, but I'm pretty sure it'd take up most of our drive wink

Your completely right about the 50,000 mile thing. Of Course. I think maybe my current car needing a fair amount of work all at once put me off the more leggy ones tongue out

That Leon Cupra though. Hmm. Could be exactly what I'm looking for...

Does it have to fit on ur drive and not make you want to divorce your wife?

Reliable doesn't have to be small. I have never had a lexus but after my A8 i want one.

They are seriously nice places to be.

Rarity factor? Skyline 350GT. 4 seater 350z essentially. Same chassis, same engine, etc.

For example, my Picanto has a 10,000 mile service interval, so would be "50k in age" at 5 years old, but could just as equally have 50k on the clock at a year old if you really hated yourself that much. (I saw one for sale at < 2 years old with 78k on the clock yikes)

Have to agree with people questioning this logic!

50k miles is 50k miles. The OP didn't even mention a year of car he was after.
