MG Maestro Turbo. barn fresh
Discussion
before i start will tell you a bit about me. I'm a compulsive tinker. I have a old barn full of silly gumtree and stupid eBay purchases. currently in the "black hole barn" that's what the wife calls it. I have a MK1 Astra(no wheels or engine)a Mazda xedos 9(needs 3 panels) a wee R5 gt Turbo(no interior or top half of engine). Now this Maestro Turbo has come up. Its £400 and needs a new head and break overhaul. It has 72k with history and NO RUST at all apparently. been sat in big shed for last 3 years. Not seen it myself yet. But i cant help but want it. WIFE WILL GO NUTS! But would you buy it ?
Onestly why not fix the jobs you have on the go currently ?
Else you will have to many different things on the go you'll struggle to ever finish or always put the jobs off.
Or buy the thing restore it and then sell or use it yourself. Sounds a simple repair done on one day at the weekend you could turn a tidy profit for a days work pay for above extra holiday or you repair it and then cannot sell the bloody thing worst case and you don't really need it or will use it so infrequently what's the point

If it's been in a shed for 3 years then it will have rust. 3 years takes you to 2008/9, so expect the worst.
I'd avoid it, and finish one of the other cars you have. 'Tinkerers' never ever seem to get a job done, then end up putting their 'unfinished project' up for sale on eBay due to 'lack of interest/time/money' etc. Another 'tinkerer' then buys it from you, and thus the cycle begins again for the poor car.

Don't buy it you have two to three projects on the go currently and as you clarify are slow at progressing. Don't take the opportunity away from someone else who may relish the challenge and get it done quickly and then sell on or enjoy it themselves.
Also unless your flush it seems to be quite an expensive hobby.
Instead spend that £400 on a nice weekend away in a nice hotel with your wife. Also the more projects you take on te less time you will have to spend with her and any family ... Maybe that's what youd prefer but it would be strange.

Buy it, man. If it makes you happy and you have the space, so what? I'm sure your Mrs has more shoes / makeup / bags than she has any rational need for. £400 isn't going to mean you kids are destitute or anything is it?
The thing is though, you clearly have some mechanical talent which I would love to have, and you have the space and time to indulge it. Why not finish off some of the brilliant cars you've mentioned, and drive them, or flog them and use the cash to buy the mrs a nice new hat or something?

There were only 504 Maestro Turbos. If you buy it, sure as hell give it a good restoration... if not, make sure someone who will restore it gets it. They're not really famous for their durability so you could be onto a minor profit if you get it back to original spec (removing those 'weight reducing' holes in the chassis etc)...
