Audi S8

Until today I'd never heard of the 4.2 V8 aluminium barge with 335bhp that can be bought for not a huge amount of cash...

Any you can think of?

1974 Ford XB Falcon coupe (after watching the Eric Bana film 'Love The Beast')
1960s Pontiac Catalina
1970 Dodge Polara
and a whole load of American yank tank- after being brought up in the UK and exposed to Austin Allegros and Morris Maxis instead!

Four wheeled Bond Bug based on a Rebel chassis instead of a Regal. There's on in Car and Classic for £750. scratchchin

After a life of car nerdery, not a lot slips under the radar unless it's very obscure.

Great cars (I saw one today, as it happens, there are two local to me that I know of). Look out for the same problems that plague the Audi A8's:

  • dodgy repairs (the aluminium body panels can be expensive to replace)
  • gearbox issues - I'm not sure if it uses the same box as the A8 of that generation, but the 4 speed auto from the early A8's is a well known trouble spot and can be extremely expensive to put right. A colleague of mine still talks about how Audi wanted £7000 off him to put it right!

Yes, the A8's later moved onto a 5 speed Auto box, the S8's may have used one all along.

Great cars, but I would tread carefully as they have the potential go quite wrong and throw big bills, hence why my colleague ended up getting rid of his A8, despite thinking it was a total bargain from the off.

And watch for when the wheels on the BMW switch from M5 Turbines to Cross spokes mid chase.

It's about £700 overpriced unless you value restoration projects.

MR2 Turbo. Were they ever sold here? Seems like nearly everyone on here has had one, but I don't remember ever seeing one at a Toyota dealer. Are they all grey imports or have they just slipped under my radar.

All grey imports.
