Do manufacturers include in their service manuals/work lists, an instruction to leave one bolt missing from the engine undertray and associated trim bits and pieces each time a car is worked on? And failing that, if this would result in it falling off completely for example, break a bit off somewhere?

Or have I just been unlucky?

My under trays are held on with more cable ties than the original(crap) bolts/fasteners.

The screws/bolts on these are prone to either snapping or stripping the thread, they're a joke sometimes!

The worst I had was a 57 plate TT, I think it was held on with 18 bolts!!!!!

As above - the bolts holding them on get all the crap off the road thrown at them, so tend to rust quickly and break when removed. The only car I haven't had this problem with was a Calibra Turbo, which had the undertrays held on with nylon bolts, not steel ones

And this is why the plastic rivet was invented. No rust, when the snap off rather than pull out just pop another in the hole. Cost <1p each and you can get the undertrays off and back on in seconds. I don't know why more manufacturers don't use them...
