Before I bought my 2000 model XJ8 Jag a few months ago I a lot of research on sites like this and found out about problems with timing chains etc. I'm toying with the idea of buying an XK8. Does this car have any similar traps for unsuspecting players. I'm only thinking about it, but they look like a beautiful car.

I'm off to have a nosey browse in the ads.
Wonder how cheap affordable those supercharged ones have become.

In Australia, which is where I am looking, models from 1997 up to about 2000 range from about $37000 to about #42000.

I bought a 2004 XK8 convertible last year. Not regretted it for a second.

No real issues so far and should something occur there are lots of specialists about and parts seem very resonable.

From what I have read the 4.2 engine is pretty much issues free. I would avoid the earlier 4.0 due to timing tensioner issues and water pumps (unless documented that they have been changed to latest versions).

jdw100....you've probably told me what I didn't want to hear. Even for a 2002 model which is still 4.0 litre I'm looking at almost $50,000 , which is above my budget. Looks like I'll have to happy with my XJ8 and my Mazda RX8 or else I may be buying a headache I really don't need. But hell they are a good looking car. What a pity though they didn't come in an optional manual.
