This is my first ever post and I am just offering some advice.
I bought a lotus elise (60) from a major dealer and it had been clocked -158 miles was in fact 5200 miles - within the dealership. They did what they had to and gave me my money back. As well as warning people that it does go on even in big dealerships. Has anyone ever had this happen to them and was there anyone you can report it to?
In the end it turned out really well - I got an Elsie SC - like the wind!!
Cheers MJC

Was it the dealership that did it? What was their reason for doing it?

So how many miles had it been clocked?

So it was showing 158 miles instead of 5200?

Was the SC upgrade part of you not mentioning it to anyone?

They sold it with 158 miles to me. I had to take it back for a couple of repairs - bit odd on a car that had done so few miles. So phoned Lotus who had sold the car to the main lotus dealership in Stourbridge and they said it should have at least 5200 miles on it.
The SC is a new car completely bought from somewhere Christopher Neil - really nice people to deal with. It is awesome and well worth the aggro I went through with the other one.

I've bought a clocked car before, and I'd say it can happen at ANY car dealer, either independent or franchise manufacturer.

It just depends on the greed of the boss at that site.

It's so easy to do, and with margins being tight, knocking miles off makes up that margin.

Taking yours from 5k to 158 miles will have increased the price a few £k no doubt.
