Tyre fitters pricing
Discussion
I swapped from my winters to summers today and as I work in Derby I went to a couple of tyre fitters there. Bearing in mind I had the tyres with me, wanted fitting and balancing only and were taking the old ones with me, the first one wanted £25 ... per wheel! Is that not slightly taking the piss? And it's not like they were even busy - they had ~8 bays and not a single vehicle in. The next one not too far away wanted a bit less - £18 per wheel.
In the end I gave up and went to my usual fitter in Mansfield and paid a much more reasonable £25 all in.
I can only assume that the first two take such a big cut on tyres that are bought there that they can charge what they like when someone with their own comes in.
So, was I being unreasonable with the first two? How much do you pay for tyre fitting?

I expect the average will be £10. I wouldn't pay more.
Few weeks back my partners pinto needed a new tyre and my spare wheel needed a new one too. Luckily the car came with a new Bridgestone for the spare that the previous owner hadn't fit.
Went to a local independent tyre place (not dodgy backstreet...) and the put the tyre on for a fiver. Even put it on the tailgate for me. Result.

Normal price from the place I use is ~£12 per wheel, fitted & balanced if you supply your own tyres (although obviously they'd rather sell you the tyres as well).
Last time I got some tyres swapped (4x tyres from one set of wheels to another) they charged £40 all-in.
If anyone knows anywhere in Suffolk that does it cheaper, let me know...

when i needed some tyres changed i went to a few local places (n/w london) and prices varied from 23 to 28 quid. per tyre! and they seemed surprised that i was surprised!
its only because i know someone who knows someone working at a tyre place that i can get them done for 7.50 per tyre.

At that price you could do what we do, buy a set of rims & fit winters to those. You won't have to pay to change them every time then. Just change the wheels yourselfIn the end I gave up and went to my usual fitter in Mansfield and paid a much more reasonable £25 all in.
