squeaky interiors
Discussion
Is there any car that doesn't ever have some annoying little noises that develop over time or come and go?
I had a saxo, to be fair that was the least squeaky of them all.
I then had a yaris, that drove me mad.
Then I got an ibiza, I used to hit the dashboard and the seat alot to stop it making noises.
Now I have a turbocharged cooper S, When I first got it, no squeaks, nothing I thought i'd finally done it, buying a car percieved to be more of a luxury vehicle had finally got rid of those annoying noises.
6 months later and there are some starting to appear...

Biggest bug bare of any car I own and it annoys me more (exponentially so) if the car cost alot.
As it is my civic drives me potty. Worst slapped together interior I have ever had the misfortune to sit in. I get a new squeak, rattle or vibration every week. It's not even fun to play hunt the squeak.
My el cheapo skoda, whilst it had some tatty bits, barely made a sound except when the heater was on high ad the dash rubbed on the window.
My take is, in the civic at least, they spent too much making it look like the flight deck on the enterprise. Not enough on materials. Also there's lots of separate sections and panels that fit together. This combined with solid suspension basically means it gets rattled apart. Harsh vibrations already completely unscrewed the bolts holding the centre armrest/console down and it was flapping and wobbling about!!!
I reckon hard suspension is to blame. Doesn't absorb enough of the vibrations.

My A4 went back to the lease company last month with nearly 90,000 miles on the clock. While it was a pretty dull car (the quickly discontinued 120PS model) the one thing I couldn't complain about was any rattles or squeaks. IIRC my previous Passat estate was the same too (and equally dull). In short, if you want lack of squeaks, then buy a dull car.
My new 320 touring is squeak free too, but only time will tell if it lasts...a little less dull than the previous cars. However, the comment further up about the Z3 isn't so good as I've just bought one for a weekend toy...I'll leave the roof down and hopefully that will cover the noise.
In the past I've used soft foam to sort out various squeaks on dashboards, etc, but it depends on how much it bothers you I guess.

My E39 is about to approach 150K and 12 years old, but now that you mention it, no I don't think it has any rattles or squeaks.
My Z4 has one very noticeable rattle from the passenger side vent/cupholder area but I never pay attention as I always have the roof down and stereo up loud

My old S Type Jag has done over 100,000 miles & there is not a sound from anywhere, feels really well put together, the interior has held up brilliantly too, even the drivers seat bolster hasn't worn.
