Hi all ,a really nice lady called Jill is a member of my Local area Forum I will put her post up and am asking you PH bods to give her some advice ,thanks all,Pete.

With great sadness I think it's time to let my much-loved 1990 Fiat Panda go, even though it does have a double sunroof, I'll have you know! It's served me incredibly well over the years, and continues to do so, but I think the time has come to say good-bye to my old friend. I can't afford a new car and have whittled it down to a few choices. Nissan Micra, Toyota Aygo, Hyundai I10, Peugeot 107 or even another Fiat Panda. Does anyone have knowledge of any of these cars and can perhaps give me a guide as to which to avoid/choose? I don't do a lot of driving, my Fiat has only 40,786 miles on the clock! I would so appreciate any advice as I'm pretty clueless when it comes to cars. Many thanks.

Hyundai might be good for her, longer warranty (sliding scale) and reasonable money for age & mileage.

ETA: £4000 budget, it'd make a good deposit for finance.

In that case micra or aygo. If she wants low mileage for that money she will struggle.

£3500 will get an 05-aygo with circa 70k on. Don't forget that the C1 and 107 are essentially the same car.

£4000 micra will be around 5 years old with 30-40k on.

So brief summary. A Nissan Micra, but as we know they are some of the worst driven cars on the road. the car doing 40mph in a NSL on a clear, dry day will be a micra (used to be a metro in the olden days).

£4000 budget? Pity - garage near me is selling brand new pre-reg last years Pandas (white only) for £6500!

They look like great little cars too.

Any of them will be absolutely fine. If she's been happy with the Panda, no reason not to get the new-style one.

Keep the old Panda! Save £4000. She obviously does very little miles.

Porsche 944?

I've read some scary things about breakdowns in Aygo107C1s.

I think the best one is the Panda.

Any of them really, it's not like it's going to matter. But I would say Panda, as it's less of a white good than the others.

If she's buying used from a dealer, just watch the prices asked for Pandas, they can be quite ridiculous, three and four year old cars are up at the same price they actually cost new. We paid £4995 OTR for our 1.1 Active new in 2008, and that's what the dealers are asking for a used 2008 1.1 Active even now, four years and many miles later confused

I changed it temporarily, then couldn't change it back with the new PH settings.

Know what you mean. After my ban I couldn't have 'Fun Bus' back due to the space.

Porsche 924 or 944...you can get one in top condition for £1500. If you are over 25 classic insurance can be under £100 a year. They are great looking cars, easy to fix and are both well designed cars that are fun to drive and do not look like all the other cars on the road.
