Hi all sorry if this has been done before. but was wondering on the benefits of having ncb protection does it really help as when u get a quote it still asks how many accidents in the last 5 years.

waste of time...iflly you have a claim, they will still give you your 50% discount, however the premium will shoot up, so its 50% of a much bigger amount. Bit of a con really

Not really, PNCB has never been designed to protect your premium.
Its there to protect the discount you've built, of course your price goes up after an accident your risk profile has changed and so will the premium you pay.

Without PNCB not only will you see your premium go up because of the accident but you'd see an additional increase because you have less NCB.

The perception is that their premium will remain similar even if they make a claim, and its not the case.

A perception spread by "a mate down the pub" not the industry, along with "comprehensive lets you drive any car" etc

Yes PNCB is poor value - if you do the maths and look at the terms in detail, it is highly likely you would be better off not protecting in the longer term. The insurance industry would never have come up with a product add-on that didn't increase THEIR chance of more profit. Obviously everyone's circumstances are different and it may be more worthwhile for a young/new driver.

So for the hard of thinking NCB of 50%, post crash quote £1000 discount applied £500 without protected NCB lets assume you drop back 2years so 50% becomes 30% price is now £700.
