Saw my first Evoque yesterday. Went, WTF? Someone big sat on a Range Rover??! It just looks wrong!

Which reminded me of my first sight of a Mini Countryman - which nearly caused me to chuck up in my bike lid (much worse than the Evoque, but both on the same lines of wrongness).

There's definately a line somewhere when one of the key things about your cars is their size - Rangies should be BIG, Minis should be... well, mini - and I'm quite certain that these things cross it.

But I may be in a minority of one given how many of those gag-inducing "minis" are on the roads....

Nope, you're not alone! And I totally agree, Minis should be small, RRs should be big, stately and copulent....

The styinng of the Evoque I don't have a problem with at all, in fact i'd go so far as to say I quite like it... then I saw one in the flesh - I honestly thought it was a 60% wind-tunnel replica!

I also nearly puked when I first saw a clubman but do quite like the evoke. I wouldn't have one as I use my 4x4 for offloading but I can see why people like them.

When I rule the world it will be illegal to have a car which isn't a golf in resale grey to protect those of a sensitive nature

X6 to you Sir! Corpulent (with the added 'r') in the extreme. Obscene.

The first time I saw the orginal 'Ka' I laughed. The first time I saw the last on the line of Scorpios (wide mouthed frog), I laughed too. You get used to these things though, and I grew to quite like the 'Ka'. Evoque is just plain silly...

I must admit that I do quite like the looks of the Evoque. However for the life of me I don't know why they had to sell it under the Range Rover name.

It just isn't a Range Rover and selling it under the Land Rover name would have been a lot more suitable.

Of course though we all know it's sold under the Range Rover name because of badge snobbery. Chelsea Mum's and Footballer's might not want it as much if it was just a commoners Land Rover.

Here we go, pointless comparisons with the MINI brand and the original Mini which was conceived 50 years ago whilst conveniently forgetting that due to modern crash and environmental standards ALL vehicles are significantly larger than their predecessors.

Add in a little more ignorance whereby people ignore the model extension of the Issigonis original (Clubman, pickup, Moke et al) and you've got a recipe for all the haters to queue up in a frenzy of MINI bashing.

Add Range Rover to the mix and we can all sit back and watch the anti-4x4 brigade foam at the mouth spewing out yet more crap/Victoria Beckham/chavs buying RRS etc.

FFS, PH used to be about celebrating cars and motoring in general but now it's turned into repeated slagfests banging on about the same models and repeating tired old clichés that due to constant repetition become facts in the minds of some posters.

JLR and MINI are iconic British brands, albeit foreign owned, manufacturing vehicles and engines in the UK employing thousands of people directly and indirectly.

How about celebrating that fact, rather than starting yet another thread which gives the haters a platform to spew their dislike on?

I agree.

It's a bit like the fking morons on that M3 thread that say the latest M3 should be like the E30. No it shouldn't, the car has evolved into a superb machine.

There will always be haters and for some reason it seems to be the cool PH thing to criticise nice cars.

Strange.

I think the evoque is a really poor design, too pinched at the rear especially and will date very quickly. I like the 'idea' behind the styling in the same way that I didnt like the bangle 7-series, but it's philosophy translated well to the rest of the range.

Totally agreed. What really pees me off, is that no Apple products look like an Apple. My mate had an ipad thingy, it was the least Apple like thing I have seen. How can 'they' get away with it. I used to love Apples.....

Thats not right man, Minis are cool, but they are big, all cars have become inflated, not because of safety. They try to be larger than every other car in the class. Then they bring out small cars to fill the gap, i.e. Golf>Polo>Lupo, Escort>Fiesta>Ka.
That big mini though, my ex has one, I like it inside, really choice interior all cream leather and well designed, but, the exterior. Looks like miss piggy after a night on the p155. And yes, it has relevance to the Evoque as I would class it as one of its main competitors.
