My insurance for my Mk1 Import MX5 is nearly up and I've been looking at quotes now that I'll have a year no claims.

This year I was on a limited mileage import policy and paid somewhere between £1300 and £1500. It's not exactly cheap, but for a first own policy at 20 (on an interesting car) I wasn't really complaining.

The company quoting me this year via Flux Direct are the same I've been with and they've dropped the premium to £1096 with one years no claims.

I tried adding extra drivers, still £1096. I added some modifications, still £1096.

For 21 on an Import Mk1 MX5 with modifications and one year no claims, I'm pretty happy with that. Especially in a NI postcode.

Especially hearing horror stories about £2000+ on 1.0 Corsas etc.

Anyone else having decent luck?

Have you tried the meerkats and the confused people? I'd expect you'll be able to make a saving, 1yrs ncb drops quotes a lot as does being 21.

Im 21, i currently pay £189 a month on a 2005 A8,

at 19 i paid £172 a month for a 2000 528i sport.

My area is what i consider medium risk, but i dont think the cars i have had are considered high risk because they are surely not seen as cars that many my age would choose.

A lot of the mainstream comparison companies either wouldn't quote me or the quotes were a bit high (£2-3000).

I think Ive been able to get a quote through Flux Direct for £1200. Unlimited mileage, All mods declared, with my parents and brother insured to drive it too.

shhh...say it very quietly but my car insurance went down about 10% this year, and I'm old enough that my age shouldn't be a factor any more.

My price went down 50 quid when changing from an Escort Si to a Sierra Twin Cam in the middle of my policy, not what I was expecting at all! Very happy with 550 a year, and i'm 21.

Got any aged relatives lots of years behind the wheel, and a decent driving record? .They never need to actually drive the car.
Daughter is 30 ,been driving almost nine years and putting me on as named driver got her £100 off .

I'm 22 and paying £800~ on a (lightly) modified MX5 via Adrian Flux. Their renewal quote was about £1200 but when I told them I'd had a quote from Admiral for £800 they matched it without hesitating... Makes me kind of annoyed it was so high in the first place, and wonder how much lower they would have gone...

Russell, who do you insure your Caterham with? I've tried all the usual companies and only got quotes in the thousands, but that was as an only car.

I can't seem to get my insurance to below the one grand level.

I'm now 26 and drive a Jag XJ8, the first year I can't recall what it was but when I had my Merc the premiums were dropping at circa £200 - £250 per annum.

The 2010 renewal on the Jag was £988, then it went up to £1076 and now it's down to £1033. This despite having 7 years no claims.

I have thought about a classic policy but the car is only 12 years old and I'm still young(ish) for such a policy or so I assume.

I'm paying under a bag of sand @ 21 on a GTi. 3 year ncb. Trouble I had with Flux was when they asked me for my uni address where the car is kept when I am at uni it went up by £400! Direct line didn't ask me for the address its kept whilst at uni, just have me down as student. Its all in the questions you get on the phone I've found. Never rely on internet quotes, have been conned by them before, always ring up.

I forgot to mention the best part(s); I have six points and two claims in the last three years (non fault). Also it's a racing car with a rollcage, non-standard parts aplenty!

Come on, you know you want to- join the small but noisy young Caterham owners contingent!

P.S. when I first read your post I thought it said "To helP with practicalities I really want a Caterham!" laugh
