Goodwood festival of speed

I have been wanting to got this event for years and now it looks like i might make it.
No doubt the price of hotels/ b&b's in the area are extortionate when it's on, so i'm sure some fellow PHer's have done it.
Where did you stay, any recommendations?

It wouldn't be a hardship to stay somewhere like Portsmouth - only an hour away at the most. There are quite a few campsites around too.

We stayed I a de vere hotel just past portsmouth last year. 40 mins away & reasonably priced-highly recommended.

Unfortunatly clashes with Le mans classic this year so we won't be going

I stayed in Worthing last year in a cheap B&B. Not the greatest place, but not too far away!

Is it possible to camp onsite?

campsites and local b&bs probably all full by now. Last time I went (2010) we stayed in a new premier inn about 45 mins away. Cheap and clean.

I went a few years back, we left the night before thinking we could stop off within an hours drive of Goodwood and have a few beers..........no chance!!

We slept in the car in a hotel car park 5 mins from the entrance to Goodwood, well worth the broken 2 hr sleep in an E46 and I'm 6'6"!!

Well i work in Portsmouth and come the weekend i can't wait to get out of there.
So where were the b&b's nearby that people have stayed in?
