£40k - 3k per year - track days and weekend away - what car?
Discussion
As above, what do you think? My current weekend car has to go as it doesn't do what I now need.
I would like something to keep for 5 years or more, low mileage and not lose too much on depreciation.
Would prefer nimble to muscle but needs to be quick - 60 under 5 and over 150. My thoughts are M3 CSL, Boxster Spyder or an Exige. All suggestions needs to be good on track and SWMBO needs to get her commodious luggage on board for a weekend away as well as my small man bag. During the week it needs to fit into a normal sized garage which excludes Merc type barges. Suggestions?

Of your choices I'd go for the M3 CSL, although they aren't the comfiest road cars, so any weekend away would have to be relatively nearby. Only really need to budget 30k for a decent one though, and depreciation will be very limited.
What about the E90 M3 - lots for sale sub-30k pounds with low mileage, and they'd be a superb "do it all" car, although perhaps not "nimble" enough for you?
Would the boot on a Boxster be big enough for your other half's needs? Exige doesn't have great luggage space, and again noisy/stiff for road trips. I guess it comes down to the balance between track days and weekends away - I'd say there's little point buying a CSL or Exige for a couple of trackdays a year, but lots of weekend trips to the Continent, for example.

With me just finished watching Top Gear on BBC iPlayer, I'll have to agree with Jeremy and say that an M3 will be your best bet. There's plenty to choose from as well especially with your budget, you can get a really mint CSL and still have some cash left, or you can get a really late low miler E90.

Thanks but an E90 M3 just too large and heavy for me. Boxster has 2 boots so should have enough space for a couple of days away. Are CSLs that bad on a long trip? What about the E90 M3 - lots for sale sub-30k pounds with low mileage, and they'd be a superb "do it all" car, although perhaps not "nimble" enough for you?

Nice but too wide to fit in the garage. A higher mileage car would be good as 3k per year will reduce the deprecietion. A 45k miles £40K car will lose much less than a 10K £45k car. Just got to find the right one.harryowl said:
Could I take the boss, a couple of bags away for 1000 miles on a weekend in it without a divorce?A bit too hardcore perhaps. But great for the track days.

Nice but track day running costs would cripple me...The wife would love it though,,,
