Are BMW actually selling any 5 series GT's? I think I've only ever seen one.

Quite fancy one when they reach sub £15k... unloved styling + public don't get it + excellent 7 series build quality = huge depreciation and perfect 'PHers curiosity barge'

Even though it cost a premium over the 5 Touring new, I reckon they'll be 'worth' less used. Wishful thinking?

Wishful thinking - I think the people that were daft enough to buy one will be bitter enough to want a high price, as you mentioned they cost more than a touring, but they are probably "worth" less to a secondhand buyer.

I'm in the minority of people who actually like the 5GT as soon as I seen it I liked it, and my opinion hasn't changed

Looks like they've just lopped the "conservatory" from the back of the odius!

Hideous!

Currently away on business and staying in a serviced apartment... if I look out of my window there's a black 5GT outside, 20's, ivory leather interior... looks very nice IMO.

I like everything about them except the looks.

And BMW are making a 3 series version:

They're not selling any but they're leasing quite a few. A grand down and £350 a month for three years gets you one built to order. I quite like them.

it's two piece isn't it? Ie you can open it as pictured, or the complete tailgate.

How do these things get signed off? Does no one think, hang on a minute, this really does look awful?

I've seen a handful round here, which is much more than I expected to see. They are obviously selling, though not as much as the even-more-hideous X6!

They aren't pretty - so I have even more respect for those that buy them because they are excellent cars.

Bit like the very early Imprezas - pig ugly but those in the know bought them anyway.

I remember seeing the X6 up close and thinking it ugly. It has now grown on me with its chunky styling, but this...good god, it is truly hideous, in a frightening, who could do that to a child sort of way

There's one in the local area, the only one I've seen, and the owners seems incapable of parking it other than like an utter mong.

I'm with you I think the GT is superb and totally left of centre. Only thing is they look crap with small wheels and low spec. Panoramic sunroof and proper wheels with 535d engine will be a fabulous buy anytime soon. Cote d'azure beckons!!! Why buy a rather dull new shape 5 series. As a huge fan of the brand and having owned several E39's and E46's I'm struggling with the new era of BMW's, I just don't get where they are coming from. Anybody else feel the same ? I guess I must be getting old!
