Jaguar XJRs are available for what seems to be stupidly low prices at the moment - from about £1500 for high milers to £5,000 for what look like decent examples.

370bhp and 0-60 in 5.3 seconds.

Can you go faster / get more power for such little money with anything else?

Yeah, okay, but what about actual cars that are reasonably practical, comfortable, etc?

Saw an Omega MV6 with only 65k on it for £995 a few days ago. Not as powerful or fast as that Jag but quite a bit of go for the money.

Not nearly as fast as the Jag, that's unbeatable!

7.6 seconds to 60 for £595, that's not bad!

there was a saab 9000 over on retrorides - had a new (big) turbo and was pushing out 390bhp. was up for £1800 or thereabouts.

failing that, how cheap are the earliest 'newish shape' camaro v8s? 2k might get you a rough one, 300bhp there as well

Older evo's, they would run rings around an old jag

Are you looking for a 1000hp car that costs £100?

Id assume that Volvo/Saab/JAP eg WRX can be bought for under £1k that provide 200+ if not 300+ HP or German barges like BMW 750, Merc W124 V8

MGZS 2.5V6

180Bhp, 0-60 in around 8 secs, may be less.

Can be had for around £800..........thats why I'm about to buy one!

If 8seconds is a benchmark I have bought cars for £275 that can easily wave goodbye to a Rover regardless if it has a MG badge and a spoiler.

You can buy Fiat Coupe turbos for £500 that will crack 60 in barely 6 seconds, Impreza WRXs that will do sub 6 seconds for under £1k , MR2 Turbos for <£2k that will crack 60 in less than 5.5

A friend of mine just bought one for £600 with a full vibe stereo system yes they sound pretty good and are quite quick.

Although as mentioned above, you can get faster for less smile

Pretty much laugh

I was just curious as to what else is out there for stupid money at the moment given the obsession with MPG etc killing the values of anything thirsty.

Unless prices have gone up lots in the past year, no need to spend £5k to get a good one, I sold mine for £3,500.

M3 evo's are pretty much the same price and faster round a track, probably faster in the real world in a straight line too. Mine had real trouble getting the power to the road...traction control light would flash up to about 60mph.
