No, not really.

Pretty slow and full of bork. Not that economical either. And I'm not sure buying such a thing from a Motor auction is particularly prudent.

Suspiciously low mileage in my opinion, I'd wanna see some documentation to back it up but I suspect the mileage will be 'not warranted'.

Go and see it and buy in condition not age/mileage, what is the book value?

Saleable thing so I wouldn't go expecting to nick it.

ETA - Fox, do you think this guy has any idea what 'bork' means? Using lingo like that to the uninitiated makes you look a bit gimpy to be honest.

thanks for the response so far guys, cars performance will hardly be used as will have kids mostly, but is there a major difference between 530d and 525d in performance/parts?

thanks.

The 525d is basically just a 2.5 litre 530d. Reliability, economy, etc are all the same, but its slower. But good 530d Sport's are hard to find for £3k. If you are looking for ecnonomy an old BMW isnt a good idea as its just a pit into which you can fling money.

A rule of thumb I'm told is that if it's a diesel BMW in an auction, it's fked.

I know it's all the rage on some threads, but I couldn't agree more. It makes you sound, in my opinion, like a 17 year old geek who spends all his time in his bedroom on the internet, and has limited social skills.
