Car addiction and convincing the wife!
Discussion
I am a car addict and my wife just does not get it, I have been playing with lower value cars for over 10 years chopping and changing every 6-12 months. This time however it was pretty tough, trying to convince the wife to sell our mint Range Rover Sport (that we have only had 4 months and spent alot of money on) so I can get a 997 and she can drive around in an old Subaru. There was no spin I could put on it that made her come round, I was taking her car away and that was that!
The upshot.....the car is now on eBay and I am browsing 911V and RSJ daily ;-)
It's an addiction, I can't stop myself, maybe one day I will find the perfect combination of vehicles but I doubt it. I have a stunning RRS sitting on the drive but I am actually getting exited that I am picking up an old Subaru in an hours time
I told her its good to have 2 cars, the best of both worlds but I think she can see through me
The wife may come to terms with it one day....any of you guys have the same issue in your house? How often to you spend browsing the classifieds on PH, even just after just buying a new car?

I am sure she will moan less once it is here, every car I have had she said before she would hate it....but then she loved driving them.
When I met her she hated automatics and would only drive a Ford (her Dad talking), well I pretty much have done the exact opposite in the last few years, her favourite car (besides the RRS)?.....An auto Volvo S60???

Not wanting to fly in the face of public opinion but have you considered the possibility that it isn't her who is the problem?
As you are going to be getting the 911 would it not be an idea to get her something a bit more to her taste than an old Subaru (as she appears to like big comfy cars) and ask for her input? Or are both cars being bought solely for your benefit?
Just a thought.

I wonder how long it will take before someone tells me to MTFU or something equally original...

Hmm, just my opinion but I think I can see more reason in your wife's position than yours.Firstly, it sounds like this is a very expensive addiction. Unless you're VERY savvy, each time you change cars you're likely to drop a bunch of cash. It's your money, but you could be a car salesman's dream punter.
Secondly, see it from her side: just when she's got used to a plush car she likes, you want to replace it with what sounds like a significantly older, less luxurious car. Meanwhile you get the posh new wheels.
Ignore all the standard PH misogynistic rhetoric, I doubt any of them have got the balls to undertake the advice they're advocating

PS Multiple cars is definitely the way to go, just keep the wife on-side! My wife even told ME to go out and buy the next silly addition to our garage that I've been agonising about...
Driving along the M1 last year I ended up driving behind a gallardo. His exhaust was popping and banging with flames too. He kept slowing down then booting it. Looked and sounded great.
My wife was sitting next to me and she could see how happy seeing the gallardo had made me. Why don't you just buy one she said . Unfortunately I had to explain about the state of our finances.
But it's official , my oh has given me permission to buy a Lamborghini !

Strange, this is exactly what I was planning on doing too although I have a Disco rather than an RRS, I'm also meeting resistance (despite the fact the subaru would be a 3rd car and she has her own car). I've played this game before though and know that patience is the key. I did manage to convince her that it was sensible to buy an elise when our first child was born!Sorry, let me get this right:
You want to take away her brand new RRS and give her a manky old scooby, whilst you mince around in a relatively new 911.
And you dont understand why she might have a problem with this?
And Im talking as a bloke who bought a Ferrari and didnt bother telling the wife!

I get it too. I can't stop talking about them or looking at them. Always looking for the next car. The next good deal. She hates it, I mean really hates it, if I see a nice rare car in a garage forecourt I'll swoop in stealthily, I look over to her and get this solid stern look. I try to tell her, maybe we should get this car next (last flirt was with 1M), they only made blah blah, it wont depreciate.. blah...
She doesn't get it at all, saying that she had no problem driving the integrale evo, even when it 'looked like a Lada', so there must be a little bit of car nerd in there trying to escape.
