Has anyone else noticed the profession of the character in the Chrysler Ypsilon advert? Quite fitting considering how hideous it is! Must be an ad agency in-joke.

An optician, for those that haven't seen it.

Drove a Chrysler 200 in the States recently. Let's hope they do not launch the model over here smile

Apart from the looks and the silly price I hate the way the advert boasts about how Chrysler do things and their heritage yet the car a ruddy LANCIA!

Yep.. You are right.

Heritage is a bad way to promote your brand...

When times are hard they did what they do better than anyone else. What, go bankrupt. Get bailed out by the US government. Lay off thousands of employees. Get bought out by the Italians and rebadge cars they make.

It's amazing that they are trying to sell the Sebring softtop diesel here:

I don't like the American voiceover on the Ad. It's a bit tacky and cringeworthy...

I would prefer it correctly badged as a Lancia. It comes to something when the marketing bods reckon Chrysler has more magic in the name than Lancia, a name still tainted in the UK after all these years frown

It's the wrong heritage.

It should go something like this:

Buy the new Chrysler Ypsilon.

etc etc.

I sold Chryslers very briefly in the states, the Sebring droptop around 2003 was a real nice looking car, sold well over there and drove like any other contemporary yank motor but that latest one just looks badly proportioned and any diesel ragtop is just wrong!

BMW are even less likely to tell it's customers their first car was the Dixi, a re-badged Austin 7 built under licence from Longbridge. . . . . .

Chrysler re-badging and re-selling Lancia products is so bonkers it beggers belief. (that's a lot of "b's"!)

Anyway, regardless of how good or bad the product is, I feel sorry for the marketing team trying to sell it to us... The cupboard truly is bare for them! They have nothing to work with, absolutely nothing.

According to an interview with Fiat's CEO Sergio Marchionne in this months Car magazine, Chrysler now accounts for 63% of the Fiat group's revenue, but a whopping 94% of the operating profit. Fiat's low margin small cars are great for revenue, but they need to sell more of the larger more profitable cars that Chrysler sells.

The $2 billion Fiat picked up Chrysler for ended up being a very wise investment, they just need to start selling Golf sized cars!

Their UK adverts are horrific for anyone 'in the know'. I suppose if you know nothing about cars or the history of the brand and models involved, they're perhaps quite evocative.

Ultimately the joke is on the buying public. The reason they've taken this path is that Johnny idiot still believes Lancias are rust buckets and Chrysler are prestigious American cars.

Same way as Johnny idiot thinks Volkswagens are hewn from everlasting stone and Nissans are Japanese....
