Buying a car just for the numberplate,Sorn & Uninsured
Discussion
The story goes, i would like to buy my first car back for its numberplate. I know the car is sorn and uninsured atm and i know where it is.
If i was to buy it, how do you go about changing the plate from the original car to my current one.
To do this does the currently uninsured car have to be re insured? or can i buy it take the plate from it and then scrap the car
( its a 15 year old corsa, so i dont want to tax it and pay to insure it when its going to go right to the scrap yard in the sky)

Needs to be MOTed for certain.
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/PersonalisedR... implies that both donor and receiving vehicles must have MOTs...To transfer the registration number, both vehicles must be:
•registered at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
•available for inspection
•of a type that needs an MOT or heavy goods vehicle (HGV) test certificate
•currently taxed
However, if the vehicle that currently has the registration number is not taxed, you can still apply to transfer provided:
•there is no break between the date the tax disc runs out and the start of the SORN
•the tax disc run out no more than 12 months before the date you apply

The tax disc is the important bit, it has to be either currently taxed, or within a year of it running out.
... then why would you need to The tax disc is the important bit, it has to be either currently taxed, or within a year of it running out.
Also enclose for both vehicles:
the registration certificate or the new keeper supplement with a completed V62 ‘application for a vehicle registration certificate V5C'
a test certificate – needed for cars and motorcycles over three years old, and heavy goods vehicles over one year old

The reason is because they'll sort you out a new MOT which you'll recieve in the post with the now different reg number!
