Yesterday in Canterbury, Hobbs the posh frock store, lovely immaculate sales assistants, top-of-the-range shop fittings and a leather seat for chaps for say "It looks lovely and £150 is a fair price for a bit of cloth made in China".

And what do we get to keep us amused? A tatty sticky "Top Gear" from January 2010 - over two years old! An even filthier "GC" and "Ride" from December 2011 were hiding in shame next to it.

What's wrong with the world when chaps are treated with such contempt. I insisted we left and have written to below

I quite like reading magazines that are a few years old - they still serve the purpose of filling time perfectly well!

It's not that long ago I got rid of some copies of What Car from 1990!

The 1.6 Montego was more powerful than the 1.8 Sierra. That's a fact I wouldn't know if i'd thrown away the magazine 22 years ago.

I like reading older ones to see which predictions have come true and which haven't. Was reading an Evo from a few years back the other day, in which they stated there would likely be a more powerful version of the Mégane R26.R released (there never was) and that Ford were 'extremely unlikeky' to release an official Mountune kit for the Mk2 Focus RS (they did).

Why would you even set foot in such a hateful place. Please don't tell me you enjoy taking your OH clothes shopping?

I think they deserve praise for providing anything to take your mind of the hateful task of clothes shopping with the OH. The majority of stores don't even give you anywhere to sit, let alone something to read.

I noticed that my local car dealer doesn't have any dresses for women to look at while men are doing man business.

What's wrong with the world when birds are treated with such contempt?
Shocking. All places everywhere should be equally appealing to everyone. I'm going to complain on the internet if Halfords don't have a good selection of fresh fruit and vegetables when I pop in tonight for some light bulbs.

Silly rant OP. Also - £150 for a dress? I've bought cars for less than that FFS.

You should be off doing your own thing for an hour. Then meet up in a coffee shop at a fixed time. Always worked for me.

December 2011, I had a train journey to make from Lincolnshire to Edinburgh and wanted something to read to pass the time. I went into the station shop to look for an car magazine and spotted an Octane on the racking. I don't buy every issue and didn't recognise the cover (didn't look at it properly either!), so picked it out and bought it.

I get on the train, start reading and got to an article about the Murcielago replacement, rumoured to be called... the Jota?

I check the cover... February 2011 hehe

It could be worse. I can think of a certain local store that has placed the dressing rooms next to the teeny-bopper underwear section, with no seating... This leads to about 4 blokes, leaning against the wall, trying to not look at the spongebob squarepants boyshorts and neon pink chest covers (it ain't a bra if it's an A-cup) that take up about 170 degrees of the forward view...

Fun. Recently the M&S store in town was having maintenance done on the down escalators, which meant that to get out of the men's slacks section, one had to walk down the stairs from the second to the first floor. What the diversion sign didn't inform men of was that the stairs ended in the women's underwear section. An unending stream of slightly befuddled men deposited next to the lady's smalls; it was like that episode of Father Ted.

I am no longer welcome in our local branch, standing there reading all the magazines for free is one thing, but asking for a chair and a Coffee was perhaps a little cheeky.

That isn't old.

One of my clients has nearly every edition of Classic Cars & Practical classic magazine since launch up to the mid/late 90s plus stacks of MG, Ferrari, TVR owners club magazines all in chronological order on shelving in the office toilet.
