Anyone explain this to me:

Insured with Admiral on one of those 10 month jobbies and just had my renewal quote through of £1200 on a 1.6 2005 focus (i'm 24). This was up about £300 on last year

Anyway, I went on to go compare to see what else was on offer and the cheapest was Elephant at £860ish for 12 month or £750ish for 10. Admiral didn't quote.

A bit confused by all this given that Elephant is part of the Admiral group

Something similar happened to me, I asked whether Admiral could match Elephant which they agreed to immediately.

Although Admiral and elephant are part of the same group they insure different people, in different postcodes with different cars etc etc so the claims statistics and tarket markets are completely different.
This obviously results in premiums that vary.

Can no claims bonus that are built up on an admiral 10 month accelerator be transferred to elephant?

They can be transferred between any insurer.

Anyone would think you guys didn't write all over the place that you award a year's no-claims with no caveat for these policies! hehe

I'm hoping they'll do that with my new policy next week. Admiral have always been the cheaper of the two for me, but now Elephant have finally got the upperhand - so hopefully Admiral will match as I CBA to transfer to a new provider.

I got a ridiculously cheap quote from Elephant this year that noone else could match.

At least 400 quid cheaper.

Everyone knows that prices are got by the operator rolling 2 dice and multiplying the result by 73.2387

This is the only possible explanation for wildly differing prices.

Maybe.

They've all put their prices up of recent. I was looking at buying a Prelude 2.2VTi last week. I'm 30 with 7 years NCD and the cheapest quote I got was £700 from Admiral, WTF! I would expect to pay that for an M3 but not a Prelude!

It's bizarre but I always find this. Admiral group consistently come out at approximately half what any other insurer want to charge me...

Admiral/Elephant/Bell are the only insurers willing to touch me and and my Z4. Nobody else even comes close.

If Admiral ever cease to insure me, I think I need to move out of the city centre. The combination of Cat E postcode and group 20 car is not a happy insurance situation!

The Admiral website quoted me about £900 for ten months, but going through confused.com it was £616 for 12 months!

No logic there at all!

Chris

EDIT: Admiral/Elephant should ALWAYS be cheaper on the confused comparison site, as their group set it up!

The strange thing is that if folks bother to look at some of the site disclaimers, they'll find that a good few sites are done by BISL. Part of a broker underwriting for the bank shown on Telly as the "Local" bank. ( Hongcong , Shanghai banking corporation ,I think they were called).

Both my kids were insured for several years with Admiral but the premiums for both of them leapt up when they were 25. This has just happened to my youngest daughter, and she got insurance with Aviva, with their free weeks offer, that was near as dammit half the price. Admiral offered a "loyalty" discount of £60 and the call-centre person seemed dismayed when she didn't take it!

I find Admiral group's position quite bizzare, you'd think they'd want to retain fairly long-standing customers.

Not all insurers are putting premiums up - I renewed my own and my wife's car insurance last month and both were slightly cheaper than last year, and that was simply based on the renewal price (with LV=).
