I want a GTV V6 for 3k, am i crazy?!

£3k?!?
You can have mine for £2.5k!
Gtv's are great cars, but can throw up expensive bills.
Cambelt, oil pipes, rear suspension all can cost between £500 and £1000 to fix.
Luckily mines had all the work done.
They are slightly nose heavy, but the engine is heavenly.
Expect 25-30mpg.
The crossfire is poo.
Cheers

They are great cars. Although they can throw large bills at you.
I think you should be ok to get one for 3k. Make sure that it has had its cambelt changed at around 60k miles, this can be a big bill, so people try to get rid before they have to do this. The rear suspension benefits from polybushing. Also the brakes can throw a large bill at you as well.
Buy a good one and you should be fine. Budget £500-£1000 per year for maintenance though just to be on the safe side.
My profile has some running costs etc in it.
Happy hunting![thumbup](/inc/images/thumbup.gif)

Be careful, there are some lemons around that will need lots spending to make good - that said I sold mine last year for 3.4k with loads of work done to it over the previous 5 years.
In the long run I recon you'd be better off spending 4k on one with sorted suspension, q2, new clutch, exhaust

I bought a 53 plate GTV V6 late last year - Blue Lightning with tan leather, 17" Teledials, 12 months MOT, 9 months tax, new cambelt, FSH for just over 3k
There are some lemons but some great cars out there too.
I bought mine to replace another GTV V6 that just did not hit the spot with me in terms of the feeling of "rightness", the new one is perfect
Get a good one and they are wonderful

No don't (imo). If you enjoy the car at all and like hearing that engine (which you will) then I'd expect closer to 20mpg ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
But my friend recently sold his for £2.5k and it was lovely. Really well looked after, desirable colour and spec (Alfa red with tan leather and aeropack) and it had a ragazzon exhaust that sounded fantastic.
Much classier interior than a lot of equivalents from the time (FTO, DC2, cougar etc) and all round a lovely car. Can be expense though if things break, swear my friend paid close to £500 when his wing mirror got knocked off by chavs

there is also a private ad on auto trader for one at 3k with only 64,000 miles. sounds like it has been looked after. i will up tomorrow and try to go and see it. the engines are fantastic, but will look at upgrading the exhaust
Do think a decent exhaust upgrade transforms the sound of the car. My car sounded a fair bit better than my friend's GTV until he fitted his ragazzon, after that I couldn't even hear my car when I was driving behind him ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
Sounded roughly like this:

Bear in mind that a good exhaust system will probably be 75% or more of the value of the car ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Find one which already has a nice exhaust - much better idea.

I got a four tailpipe stainless exhaust fitted in December, cat back - lifetime guarantee - £400
Seems a bit cheaper ........ I guess it depends on what he values the cars at? If they are selling for 2.5k -> 3k then an exhaust system for £1800 seems pricey unless it's titanium?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
