My Mum test drove one of those, horrible thing. Interior was just dismal and when I shut the door the rub strip popped out of some of its clips. This was a car off a dealer forecourt...

ETA: You could have got something a lot better for the money IMO.

New waterpump, cambelt AND Turbo.

Really? Why would the turbo need changing at that mileage and condition?

Maybe I'm having false alarms going off at the moment. scratchchin

edit - Yet a £40 heat resistor hasn't been added...

Well in fairness - I'm only interested in having it as a cheapish run around. By cheap I mean tax and fuel and purchase cost. But thanks for the feedback? What else did you not like about the interior?

You have to realise I'm thick and can't read between the lines. Are you trying to say the car is clocked or something?

can think of better things to spend the cash on!

not a fan of that engine, had one that burn LOTS of oil, was scraper rings stuck (fairly common) and expensive (if you chose to) fix -if i were you i would be hoping that the reason they changed the turbo was because the seals in it were shot. the symptoms of stuck scraper rings is similar to the broken turo - high oil consumption and smoke. let's hope that they didn't change the turbo hoping to fix the issue, when it still burnt lots of oil decided to punt it on ebay.

It was a couple of years ago now so I don't remember perfectly but basically before that I never really believed the French cars are built like crap talk that goes about, I did after though.

How could I tell on a short test drive if the scraper rings are stuck? and whats the prognosis if I chose to leave it, and just topped up oil etc...

it will run fine, in fact you will get better MPG! only trouble is the smoke screen you leave in your wake and that fact that 1000ml of engine oil every 300 miles more than off sets the improved mpg (about 10 extra mpg!)

Then for what I want this car for it looks like a bonus!

You 'brought' it because it seemed 'cheep'? Excellent username.

I'm no expert myself, but a 5 year old car going for cheap with things that have just been fixed doesn't sound dodgey? Maybe it's just me but other cars the same age are going for almost double the money. I understand that you won it for that much but still...

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3642644.htm

Even the cheapest is £3400 and in pretty good knick, and it's one year older with less miles.

Like I said, maybe I'm wrong.

In fairness - he had a crap advert. He never mentioned that it had 11 months mot and full service history. I'll be going to birimingham and picking it up on monday. Anyone who lived in birmingham and who knows about cars is welcome to come and have a look with me if they want, obviously is would be worth a few beers for them.

The thing that struck me is that if it would only cost £40-£50 to fix the heater fan then why not got it fixed before selling it and get a decent price for the car?

If that's the only thing that's wrong and you got it fixed you could advertise it as a perfect operational Megane and get the book price.

Having said that it may be a bargain but you won't know until you see it. If you don't believe the item was as desribed you can reject it under Ebays T&Cs.

If you do find it's a bit of a Lemon after you accept it, you'll probably get your money back and a decent price if you stuck it in the classifieds with a decent advert. You may even get your money back if you stuck it into a normal auction.

The only thing is I've got a 150 mile drive to see it. And given it's already on it's third owner I can't see it being an easy sale with 4 previous keepers. However I won it, so fair and square I'll go and buy it on monday. Appreciate all the info guys.
