Selling a car for export? What to look out for...
Discussion
We have had a potential buyer on the phone for a car. We have provisionally agreed a price and the deposit required to secure the car.
The guy was asking all the right question about the car, faults, work required, general condition, etc.
I have told him how much deposit is required to secure it and I will only accept that via direct bank transfer. He is going to send me an email confirming the details he needs and he also needs a copy of the V5 to set up short term insurance, is this normal?
This is all a bit new, last time I sold a car privately the internet didn't exist! What should I be looking out for?

Sold a few cars privately for export now. Never had an issue. If he pays the deposit, turns up with the balance then no worries. There's a dedicated section on the V5 for export purposes, fill that in with his details, give him the rest of the V5 and send the export bit to the DVLA. He will need a receipt as well.
Selling cars from the UK for export is easy. Recently bought a car in Italy, now that was a completely different kettle of fish!
Also, he will need the car's details up front for his temp insurance prior to the car being registered in Germany.
