How much is too much?

ing with a few petrolhead pals earlier today on the subject of modding cars to the point where power overtakes any chance of the chassis coping with it. The context was along the lines of which cars take to big power hikes the best(road cars).
Our posse had expirience with Lotus Elise/Exige doing quite well-chassis seems good for plenty more hp,Evo's and Scooby's and also some Tvr's,Caterfields but at what point is the general consensus (car specific) just too much. We of course argued for ages on the talent,size of cojones,suspension set-up,you could tune anything issues ecetera ecetera.
Our musings ended up with the conclusion as long as it was still fun and driveable whatever floats your boat.Those of you have gone big hp was it too much of an animal to enjoy?
