I'm looking at a couple of cars at the moment and am looking to get out to them and want to book test drives in them for Saturday. However both cars are near 100 miles away from me and in opposite directions and I will only have time to look at one. Here come the what car bit, which one do I look at?!

One is a Saab 9-5 2.0T linear estate, its a 55 plate with 49,000 on the clock that is up for £3000
The other is a Vauxhall Signum 2.2DTI Elegance 03 plate with 76,000 on it for £2850.

Do I get the turbo petrol Saab that is going to be worse on mpg and have less toys but is younger and has less miles, or do I get the oil burner with all the kit but the extra age and mileage? I'm genuinely stumped.

Anyone got any experience of either of the cars and can offer any advice?

Depends on your annual mileage. For me, I'd take the Signum. Cheaper tax, better mpg, vauxhall still exist, cheaper parts, similar speeds and the diesel will last longer.

mileage is about average I'd say, around 14 to 15000. So so far we have 1 vote for Vauxhall and 1 vote for Saab.. :-)

For that mileage, how much will you actually save in fuel over the year? I suspect it's hardly worth it and saab will be a much nicer place to be overall.

I never owned a saab but have driven plenty (my brother was a business manager for Bowetts Saab in Leeds)and I had several vectra's foisted on me by my old company and they are bloody hateful things. The difference was huge and unless Vauxhall have rapidly improved and saab gone downhill in the last five years I'd say Saab all the way!

Good luck whatever you decide smile
