Milage? history of subframe cracks? Its now over 10 years so out of BMW goodwill gesture.
No Sat Nav and 18" wheels If its over 60000 miles its expensive for one of that age.
That said he is right the older non widesceen sat nav isnt that good anyway.

55,000 miles and 12 months MOT.

No Sat Nav.

What I liked is the genuine mileage (as much as can be proved with a FBMWSH and all receipts) and the general tidy apperance of the car.

I have not asked about any replacement of rear subframes - my last BMW was a Z4 so more up to speed with rear road springs, hood motors etc!

I have been looking at M3 of that era recently and this would be my first thoughts:-
-Condition of brakes?
-Subframe issues?
-Inspection II been done recently?

If all three answers aren't satisfactory, then it's overpriced.

I am also thinking of a 645CI Convertible as an alternate option but I have always had an E46 M3 itch that needs a scratch.

I think the 6 Series will actually have less generic issues?

Most boxes ticked above, the others are done by the eye.

Dont' be so confident in 'genuine mileage'. Mileage can never be fully proven. FSH means mothing, as most clocking these days is done on a yearly basis.
Though I can't remember where the source was for this, the majority of odometer alterations carried out are done by the same customers once per year. This is presumably done prior to the vehicles service, hence the service history will always look fine, whilst the car could have actually been mega-miling.

standard PH response: Always buy on condition smile

I quite agree - always buy on condition. However, as far as things go, I would be more comfortable with a car in good condition that also has all the paperwork to back up the services.

Goodwill gesture? What's this about then? I ask as I have looked at getting an e46 m3 next. One I looked at was 55 plate. I understand and recommend getting any m car with the inspection 2 having been recently done, due to the expense, but hey M ownership ain't cheap smile. Looks stunning in the pics really tidy worth a look by all means.

agreed.

lack of service history says that the dealer hads either clocked it, or has bought a clocked car.

at least if a car has been clocked once a year it will have been serviced once a year as well, and presumably better chance of it being looked after!

BMW's comedy subframe design means they used to tear free from the boot floor. I don't think the M3 was affected but might be wrong. BMW sometimes helped out owners, sometimes left them with 4 figure bills (although these days the problem can be fixed for <500).

It certainly does affect the M3's. BMW will fix standard cars free of charge up to ten years old. Hence why the poster above mentioned that it is now out of the goodwill period.

It seems that the 'going rate' for an 02 - 04 is around the 8,500 mark so this seems slightly overpriced on the face of it but does look tidy.

That said, the Independent Motor Company (Reading) seem to have some nice stock in at what seem to be reasonable prices.

Subframe issue does effect M3's.

Subframe cracking issues does NOT affect the convertibles.

It's been in their stock list since last November. 51 reg, 83k miles, 18" wheels, no Nav, not to mention absolutely st colour combo for 9,250?

Again true - an M3 should really be a coupe but I miss my old convertible (Z4) and want another but with the practicality of being able to take the family out also. That is why I am looking at the M3, S4, 645CI etc.

Has anybody had any dealings with IMC? They look reasonable (based purely on their website mind you) but it appears that not all of us PHers think the same!

Presumably you're looking for a manual, for under 10k this is what I found in the classifieds:
