Driving last night, a car with stupidly bright lights, Bright enough to cast a shadow of my car in front of me glued itself to my bumper. Dipped the interior mirror and got on with it. At every roundabout I became aware of this car flashing me, I started to take notice and what was actually happening was that this car was fitted with secondary headlights, one of which would illuminate when he steered left to enter the roundabout, then go out and the other would illuminate as he steered right. I'm guessing that this is some sort of adaptive set up but due to the design and height of the lights it was one of the most distracting and pointless things I've seen. I can see the point in an ideal world, but surely this set up could become dangerous if the flashes were misunderstood?

Cornering lights. Becoming more common.
My car has them and they are handy to have but I'm unsure of how they appear to others in front of me.
They should only activate below certain speeds. I've seen mine working upto 40MPH but not beyound that.

I do think Headlight / Turn Light tech has gone too far. Just because you can get lights that will burn the back of your retinas, doesn't mean every car needs them at every opportunity.
I think with this current trend of more SUV style cars around, which sit higher, it exacerbates the problem.

I've always liked the idea of the Yeti, but hated the styling.
Last week I saw a white one parked up, with all the black plastic trim it reminded me of a Storm Trooper.

Now I want one.

The ones on my Skoda Superb work up to 40 kph ish. Very useful when turning into dark driveways etc.

Some wker flashed me last week when my cornering fogs came on, does get a bit tiresome given its been several years now since they first came on the market.

The VAG system activates whenever the indicators are used regardless of speed, but they only light up round corners when its below 25km/h IIRC (or might be 40).

Demo video for those of us lucky enough to have not witnessed these things.

Is there any real reason they can't just leave those lights on all the time?

Presumably for the same reason such people use fog lights incorrectly. Idiots.

My car has cornering fog lights, I only notice them coming on when doing at least a 90 degree turn though.
