Hi all, long time reader, but only joined yesterday...

If this is in the wrong place i apologise in advance, feel free to move/remove.

so my situation is this - i own a mk2 Focus RS, feeling the urge to change, with a bit of cash leftover, and i am seriously considering a nissan 350Z.

i know about losing money on the RS due to depreciation and all that, but i knew that when i bought it new.

The z will be four years old, 20,000 miles, but rear wheel drive, which is an itch i have to scratch soon..

so am i daft? do i keep the focus, or sell while still newish, under warranty etc?

if anybody has done a similar change, and can advise, i would be very grateful.

cheers

Welcome along.

As for your dilemma, test drive the Z and see if you like it. Personally I'd prefer the Datsun but that's just me. smile

I've just traded in my 350z after 9 months, loved every minute of it. I don't think I would buy one again but I have no regrets at all. So no, not daft.

test drive and see if you like it. You'll be the one driving it, not anyone else. Only daft thing would be not buying it if you do like it more.

Personally I wouldnt as id love a Mk2 RS but each to their own. Go and try one and see how you feel. You could get a pretty nice example for what you would get back on the RS.

Scratch it. The Z is huge fun and the rear end 'break away' is progressive and really controllable. The Z is loud, brash and not in the slightest sophisticated - no revoknuckles or whatever on this vehicle. Only downsides are, IMHO, the interior trim, which is a bit cheap, and the NVH is a bit crude to say the least.

Only recently sold my 350z, was a brilliant car!

I'd recommend it 100%

But I would say go for the 313 bhp version, best build quality and performance of them all!

You're asking if moving from a FWD shopping car to a proper RWD coupe is a good idea ?

Of course it is, the only daft thing was buying a new car in the first place.

I had a Focus RS Mk2... like you i bought it new, and i had it for approx 2 years before i sold it,(3k less than what i paid for it). My aim was to downsize as i needed a deposit for a house, so i bought a BMW 1 series (120d). I'm glad i owned an RS, but i'm also glad i got rid as i like owning a house more, Yes i miss the 5 pot sound, the looks you get when out and about etc.
This is my first RWD and its great, i've had the end out a few times both intentionally and un-intentionally. Overall i don't think you're daft to suggest a change, if you're having these thoughts of change now, they wont go away wink

How much do you think you'll be losing on the RS? Would be iterested in what the costs have been for you. Pretty ow depreciation i woud guess.

I like the 350z, but I think you'd be mad to spend too much on one, prices will continue to fall on them (look at 300ZX and 200SX prices for comparison). 370z would be more tempting, but maybe still too pricey for what you want at the mo.

If you are looking at cheap enough 350z's, then they are worth a punt. Although I think for similar money to a 350z I'd much rather have a 996 911 or a Corvette C4 LT1/C5 LS1. Either will be faster and more exclusive and hold their values much better than the Nissan.
