Thanks to the stupid goverment recycling rules, I can't borrow a van from work and take my old bed to the dump!

So, I'm looking at alternative ideas, I can get a mate to take it in a XC90, but will it fit?

You certainly can in our area, but you have to sign a declaration that it's not commercial waste.

Won't your local council collect it?

Well, I got a normal double mattress into the folded down bay of an Octavia hatch with only the slightest bunching up at the sides. I'm sure it's feasible to try your mattress in an XC90.

Check the website of your county / city council. May have a service to collect large and bulky waste from households. I've used ours (Milton Keynes) on several occasion to dispose of beds, sofas and white goods via a simple email form.

They will do it, but I live on a high street and don't want it out the front, they also want to charge me £25+ for the privilege. Pretty sure this is something my taxes should cover, so don't want to pay.

I've got one of the ratchet straps, I'll fold the mattress up and it should fit.

When we used a van we got a permit from the council, didn't take long but I suppose it depends on your local council.

And if you want a giggle then cut the string holding the roll together once it is in the car

Yes - I did it in mine a couple of years ago... put the second row of seats down flat, a bit of a push and shove here and there and it goes in no problem.

Seem to remember I did it by myself (to and from the tip) so it wasn't difficult. And yes, I did think about the alternative uses of the XC90 at the time!
