well just got home from work to find out my son has been given Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance. So a mobility car is now available to us. Had a very quick look at whats available. Was surprised at the choice i must say. Never had a brand new car before. So what to get ? There is only the 3 of us. My son has mobility issues so a 4/5 door is a must. The Disco will sell for 3k so will just throw that at the deposit.

Of that list I would gravitate to the S60, the Mondeo and the ahem...Countryman (sorry).

But that is entirely subjective. Read brocuhres and reviews, pick your favourites for a shortlist and enjoy going shopping is my suggestion!

The S60, if only for the 5 cylinder warble.

I would start with some test drives and go from there, afterall you will be tied to it for a while.

you may not get a very good response to your questions as most people on PH think this is from benifits and are to stupid to to realise that motability is a charity that takes your payments in return for a car.

Countryman!!! IMHO Great economic 2.0 diesel straight from the BMW range! 5 door with great access! Build quality, funky looks, Bluetooth, Air Con, UsB, Parking Sensors all for less than £500...

but its your choice...

Would anything to low/high be a problem?

I suppose once again, though, the recommendation would be, don't listen to us muppets, go and have a butchers!

So would something at a higher level to get in/out of be useful? (MPV/SUV)

If he has trouble bending down to sit in a car, this is worth considering.

Get the one with the highest roofline then. If there is an MPV or other with sliding side doors then that's what I would get.

I don't have children, but have been helping out a relative with the school run since last week and it is a serious pain bending over and leaning into the car just to get car seat belts done up. If I had to do it on a regular basis my Accord saloon would have to go for something like Grand Caravan or similar.

Also consider that £3k of deposit from the Disco is £1k/year on top of your payments that won't be funded for next time unless you save.

Nothing wrong with that as long as you're going into it with your eyes open.

However I've just spotted a Ford S-Max for under a grand with the 160 bhp petrol and that would be my choice... a great car ... spacious, practical, not too shabby on the handling.

Being even more practical I'd suggest Berlingo/Skoda Roomster/Peugeot 3008/SEAT Altea/Ford C-Max/VW Touran in order of ascending deposit.

The Superb then - acres of space in the back.

The maxium deposit is £2K now, unless there are special circumstances.

If the S60 is like the original the roof is very raked at the back meaning lifting someone in may be difficult. I only had to lift in a 0-2 yr old and lost count of how many times I banged his head on the C pillar.

I'd recommend the Superb for acres of rear space and easy access.

Loads over £2k so what qualifies as special circumstances?
