Spotted: Lamborghini Diablo SV

A Lamborghini Diablo as a 'sensible investment'? Harris reckons so

Should an SV be painted a dignified colour and not have 6 ft decals down each side? Some people won't see the point in a stealth-spec Super Veloce, but this car looks pretty special to me.

Know this about Lamborghinis - they are becoming very collectable. These 90s cars were built in low volumes, are mighty impressive to look at and make an entrance like nothing else. Park one next to a brand new Aventador and it'll snag just as many glances. No contemporary Ferrari is anything like as outrageous.

These are great cars to drive too. Physical, intimidating and very, very fast. There are no electronic safety nets, just the requirement of a prudent right foot to control those 335-section tyres. Anyone who has heard a Diablo with a Larini exhaust does not forget the experience in a hurry.

Being entirely mercenary about this particular Diablo SV as a long-term ownership prospect, it looks very good news. The mileage is fine, it's a UK car and it's the last Lambo model to not enjoy a significant price-spike in the past few years. Countach prices have leapt in the past 12 months; you'd have to bet on Diablos following soon. The most desirable models are the last 6.0-litre cars, the mighty GT (now £250K-plus) and this SV - the 4WD VT models are nothing like as good to drive.

I've only driven an SV once before, but it was captivating. If you were to write down everything we expect a supercar to be, the Diablo SV might meet the generic description more accurately than any other vehicle. I mean, was there ever an interior with more Alcantara?

One of the most outrageous supercars of it's time.

Love it.

Proper wide-a55 machines.

My favourite Lamborghini and one of my alltime favourite cars.

I'd still want it in bright yellow with black SV decals, wing and wheels though, to me, the classic Diablo SV.

I like those. I've been lucky enough to have a few drives in one a friend of mine owned (before he put it on its roof !!). I just looooved that V12 howling away behind my head. And with those looks - certainly not for the shy and retiring types.

Seems like a reasonable price for that one.

I always preferred the Countach, it was my dream car of boy-hood and I always promised myself one. I've been mooching around used ones for years, teh good ones always just outside my price range. I too had noticed the recent jump in asking prices over the past 12 months. Very much a sellers market. Boy do I regret not investing £20k in one 10 years ago, doubt I will ever own one now. Even now, Dialos are out of my price range.

Proper loonie Lamborghini from before the company started to try and make the cars 'useable' on a daily basis. I saw one of these parked in a suburban side street a few weeks ago and have rarely seen a car that looks so right and so outrageous at the same time

A tasteful Lamborghini makes as much sense as a favourite sexually transmitted desease. You can write the phrase, but it just doesn't compute. Piant it yellow or orange or lime green, get your cheese cloth shirt unbuttoned, a pair of Aviators and off you go.

As someone who had a murcielago once said "No woman who can answer the £100 question on "Who wants to be a millionaire" is ever going to feel comfortable getting out of one."

Very dour interior... a bit off-putting.

But just over 60k for a genuine supercar seems cheap to me smile

Forget all the modern stuff. I'd snap one of these up as quick as I could barring a lottery win. What a machine.
