Hi sorry if this has been brought up but i cant find search on mobile site.
Im looking to get a seat leon cupra r not sure what reg; something like a 60 plate but its just hit me i need a tow bar for my trailer as i help family and friends out all the time. Im restricted on a 750kg trailer so i dont tow heavy but ive no idea if seat will allow a tow bar? I know you could cut a hole in the bumper and have a removeable one etc but does anyone know if it can be done?
Not sure if the twin.exhaust would be in the way or could get a new exhaust thats wider? Really want a cupra r frown
Cheers

Lots of cars aren't type approved for towbars, particularly hot versions. This means the kit's simply aren't made.
You have the factory towing eye...

This is your answer, the car needs to have been designed with a chassis that will take a towbar, the Leon Cupra R isn't designed and cannot have one fitted.

Oh and you are not restricted to a 750KG Trailer as long as the total mass doesn't exceed 3.5tonnes MAM, assuming you are referring to only having a cat B on your new license?

oh thought it was 3.5tonne inc 750kg so the car would have to weigh no more than 2.25tonne. That was my understanding anyway. I need a tow bar but want the cupra r! Dont know what to do now frown

Get a different car or tell your friends/family to get stuffed.

Get a Leon 'FR' instead? Get a Golf/A3/Octavia/Jetta instead? A nice A3 Quattro would tow better anyway...

Seat may not have published a towing weight but under the bonnet will be the gross train weight. Subtract the gross vehicle weight and you have the towing capacity.

Talk to these people about the towbar:

http://www.watling-towbars.co.uk/

They make all sorts of one off towbars with properly calculated design loads. Not especially cheap (my camper came in at around a grand) but can certainly help with advise on limits and whether they can legally make a bar for the Seat. They've done SLKs for example.

One of the guys racing Locost has an alloy trailer that only weighs 160kg. Again, quite an expensive option but the wheels unbolt and you can hang it off a garage wall. It's also stiff enough to use as a setup platform so pretty handy in that regard. BTW my Locost comes in at 530kg a Formula Vee is less and a 750 Formula car is around 350kg.

Loved the power of the cupra r, might look at an a5 3.0tdi, they shift pretty fast. I dont know what insurance is like on other cars, im only 20 and my insurer quoted 600 till august for the cupra! Cheap i know smile
