Double garage layout
Discussion
I'm hopefully about to rebuild mine (extending over it) and my plan is to build floor to ceiling cupboards about 1m deep along the back wall with some kind of shelving system spaced to take those big plastic containers. I wouldn't be without a sink in the garage; I'm going for a one and a half sink with drainer type thing with the main sink draining to the sewers and the smaller one into an oil drum for harmful stuff that needs to be taken to the tip. I'm building a small workshop off the side of mine for the sink and other odds and ends.
I would smooth and paint the walls. Rough masonry just tends to attract dust and will damage doors that get opened into it or whatever. I'm going to skim a layer of plaster over the walls and ceiling of mine then paint it white (for maximum light reflection). Plus it's worth having power sockets scattered around the place (I'm aiming for about 20 double sockets scattered around mine, including some on the ceiling) and air lines (possibly two, one for oiled and one for dry).
The floor I'm undecided on at the moment. Part of it needs to come up anyway because I want to install a hidden scissor lift under the floor level. Whatever you put on it needs to cope with having highly corrosive things like brake fluid spilled on it without dissolving, but also needs to keep the dust down - naked concrete is awful for dust. You can get specialist tiles for garage floors but they're rather expensive. I'll probably end up just painting mine with something tough.
Finally, I'll probably built some winch mechanisms into the ceiling for storing large things like trailers and hard-top roofs above where the cars will be parked.
If you intend to keep cars in it, get some kind of dehumidifier.
