Smallest car that can fit - Golf Clubs and Baby seat (4door)
Discussion
Father inlaw is currently driving a Ford Mondeo.
He asked me the other day what car can he get in order to both downsize and save money on fuel, insurance and possibly road tax but still be abel to get his golf clubs in the boot and as us and his other daughter have babies, a car seat for the grand kids (I assume separately)
He will be looking to buy the car nearly new. He has not mentioned budget of any kind but as saving money I assume would not go for a pricey brand.
In the past he typically buys a car about 3-5 years old. Has always had Fords, of this ilk but not opposed to any other brand.
Thanks for any pointers I can put forward.

Fiesta.
We're talking full size golf clubs aren't we? Maybe in a Fiesta VAN, but not a hatchback fiesta without folding the seats.I always thought it was stupid that a VW Golf can't accommodate a set of golf clubs in the boot. It needs to be something bigger.
A Mondeo is a pretty big beast. A VW Jetta will take golf clubs without folding the seats. Or a 1 series coupe. Both are smaller, but I'm not sure about being money savers!
Think "Booted" car and you'll find something...
The last SEAT Toledo? Basically a booted Altea MPV-style hatchback, that i suppose is not that easy on the eye, but it's a good solid car that handles well and comes with VW engines & running gear. They are cheap as chips, even for the nealry new examples - probably due to it's unpopularity & looks i suppose. The Altea (and XL version) look better, but slightly more expensive. I would recommend them.

A mk5 golf fits 4 sets of clubs in the boot if you take the drivers out and rest them on top
To add to my post, I'm not saying buy a mk5 golf (who would!), but from experiance the boot is plenty big enough so anything Golf/Astra/Focus/Guiletta sized is plenty big enough. Gaz. said:
Are you having a laugh? I could fit a 14 club cart bag still attached to my trolley in the boot of my wife's mkiv Golf.
I cannot fit my golf clubs in the boot of my Mk4 Golf unless I remove the woods and place them on top.I presume you are folding the rear seats to fit a cart bag with attached trolley?
The ST24 on the other hand I have to climb into the boot to find the golf bag (with woods)

Even if he needs more space than a fiesta wouldn't a Focus be a better suggestion for someone who has always driven Fords? Just pop down to the Ford dealer and buy the cheapest car everything fits in.
