10 Month Inusrance Policy = 1 year NCB
Discussion
I took out this policy about 10 months ago as it was cheaper (stupid yes). It gives a year of NCB when the 10 month policy is up. I suspect this bonus is now only valid with said insurer but I just want to check.
I now have 2 years NCB with my current insurer, but in the eyes of any other insurer I believe I still only have one year. Is that right?
However, this is not such a problem when you look at my quotes below.
Renewal quote: £614 (still only a 10 month policy)
Other insurer with 1 year NCB: £636 (12 month policy)
New policy is better value, even with only 1 year NCB.
Other insurer with 2 year NCB: £575 (12 month policy)
So basically I shall be cancelling the renewal and going to a different insurer. I know I probably cannot say I have 2 years NCB, but in the interest of saving £61 I thought I would ask you folks.

You have whatever amount of NCB it says on the renewal. I had 10 month accelerator policies for years, it gives you a full transferable NCB
I had the same. Was with Bell for about 4 years, and had a proof of no claims for 4 years. It doesn't actually say on the proof of no claims sheet if it was built up on a 10 month policy or a 12 month policy. Or at least I don't think it did.
Got insurance now with another company and they accepted it fine.
Great news, it says 2 as you would expect. I just didn't think it was transferable, that's all. Question now is, is it worth staying on the accelerator for 10 months at £614 or going for the 12 months at £575. Clearly the NCB bonus isn't doing much for me at the moment, my age is keeping the price up.
ETA: The proof of no claims says cover is for 304 days, so they can see that it's a 10 monther.

Didn't seem to make any difference, though. New insurer will probably be happy for the new business, so I expect most will accept it.

Were/ are you with Admiral? I'm on a 10 month with them. If the company that are offering the 12 month for £500 are a sister company of Admiral, Admiral will beat it. ETA: The proof of no claims says cover is for 304 days, so they can see that it's a 10 monther.

My 1st renewal was £1500, got a quote for £1000 with Diamond, rang Admiral and said "sort it out". I'm now paying £833 for 10 months with that compensation thing as well. Interesting. I'll call them and check that out.
