So I finally ended up getting a new (used) car from a car supermarket type place and should be due to pick up on Tuesday biggrin . Only thing is, I need my counterpart license. The problem is I really can't find it, I've had the whole house upside down mad

Does anyone know of why they would need this, and might there be a way around it so I can still collect Tues and not have to wait weeks for the DVLA to send another?

Are you having a lump of finance, in which case it is required as I.D but itsnormally possible to work round it with a passport, bills etc depending on who the strap is with, cant think of why else they would need it?

Damned silly bureaucratic rules, that's why.

I would suggest the OP offers the documentation he has and ask the question.

I think that the provider will see the sense, in not becoming fixated on the paper licence.

If it's on finance then you need it, no two ways about it.

I nearly didn't get my Picanto on the day I should've because I couldn't find mine!

Sometimes it's because they have a 7 day drive away insurance scheme so it might just be something they ask everyone.

What did you end up doing then? Or did you find it in the end?

Yes there is, alternative forms of identification such as a utility bill, passport and his card part of his driving licence,

My two previous cars were financed and collected without any issues using the above method.

Santander Consumer insisted on both parts of driving licence + a utility bill.

I found the counterpart in the end.

For an update, my passport was ok in place of counterpart license because the finance was under £8000. Above this, the guy said there was no way they would give it to me.

I thought they might.

Money laundering is the cause.

I actually cannot see why they require a paper counterpart.

I can think of no legal requirement as you have your passport with you.

Sounds like jobsworths to me. Well done anyway!

That plastic card you have that says "Driving Licence" on it is not a driving licence.
Neither is the paper counterpart.
The two together is a driving licence. So if you present the card without the paper counterpart you are not presenting a valid driving licence.

Yes. It's the paper part which is important.
I don't have a photo licence and have never been asked for one.

Actually, so does the photocard. Section 8, right at the bottom of the card (I just looked at mine)

I repeat Jobsworths IMO.

Since the address is on the Photo licence its clearly unnecessary to have the paper part. It is simply a requirement of the particular lender.

I can think of no reason defined in Statute why the paper counterpart would be required.

It depends on the reasons for wanting to see it. For simple proof of address then, yes, I would have thought that the photocard would be sufficient (although they might argue that it is easier to forge than the paper counterpart, perhaps).

However, if they actually need to see the legal Driving Licence then, as I said, the legal Driving Licence is the photocard + paper counterpart.
