Always loved these, especially the boomerang lights missing from the 4200 thanks to those damn yanks!

I note that there are only 13 on Autotrader. have they been scrapped, kept by the owners or crashed due to dodgy handling?

They are less than 10k now!

Take around 8K a year to run them.

Word of advice in the car world..... expensive cars are only ever cheap if they're are borked or susceptible to copious bork.

I seriously considered one of these not too long back but tales of woe regarding servicing , maranello parts and general running costs put me off.

Still got a hankering though. Beautiful car. Get the GT Asetto Corsa edition if you can. Worth the premium.

You're probably best off asking this on maseratiforum.co.uk or sportsmaserati.co.uk.

Buy a cheap one that hasn't had love and attention and it will be financially ruinous in a way you probably cannot imagine.

Buy a good one that has been cherished, and it won't be cheap to run, and if you're unlucky it could still be financially ruinous, but it will be a source of great satisfaction.

There are many previous threads on this subject - but the above is probably a fair summing up.

Oh and don't believe the 'my mate' stories. Ask folks who are or have been owners...

There werent many made/sold, which is why there are so few on the market. Complete rubbish that £8k a year quoted above is what you need to run one (based on my years of ownership and experience of others on the forums mentioned above).....not at all representative, that said - if you buy a cheap 3200 with hidden problems, it is possible! Buy a good one at the upper end of the market that has all the right history, and in all likelihood you'll recoup your additional upfront cost in far lower running costs....my last 3200 was standard servicing/maintenance only and was completely reliable. Servicing was pretty reasonable via a specialists, and your saving in depreciation covers them anyway!

As someone else said, if you can, stretch for the Assetto Corsa - prices of all 3200s have been pretty much level now for the past 3 years, but the Assetto Corsa is creeping up in value....there were only 75 made and probably about half of those left (others written off or exported to Australia). The Assetto Corsa also looks lovely - sits lower on its uprated suspension, and has cool wheels.

There was one of the PH 'spotted' threads on the 3200 recently - worth looking for.

I almost convinced the wife to get one a couple of years ago but the worry of it falling apart and the fact it wont be a £18-£20k (as it was at the time) but still a supercar with supercar bills.

It will bleed you dry.

Sorry - does Australia not count? I am in the process of thinking about returning a few classic's rust free to the UK market, obviously for a profit.

great place to store them for a few years lol

I suspect the same will happen in many years time with cars like these.

No, of course it doesn't count in the context of the number currently available to buyers in the UK! The cost of exporting cars under 30 years old including compliancing, GST/duty/LCT and value of these cars in Australia means that any exported now aren't coming back, at least not for a long time...many years as you say! Classics may well be different.

Lol! Why is it, as soon as a thread about 3200s or 4200s pops up, someone comes out with a statement like this?

It shoudn't cost £8k a year to run one unless you are either considerably unlucky or not done your homework before buying.

OP, get yourself over to http://www.maseratiforum.co.uk/ . Loads of helpful info and advice on this subject.

Agreed, I ran mine for four years, and it never cost £8k a year to run. It certainly cost more than all of the Porsches I'd owned previously, but nowhere near that figure. Altough when you find out you need a throttle body at £1500 for the part alone, the wallet does wobble for a moment! My advice would be; if you don't have deep pockets, then don't bother.
