I asked a bodyshop to quote me for a full respray on my track car. They said they had a type of paint (cheap!) which didn't need a lacquer coat and which would be 'ok, as long as I only put stickers on it'.

As opposed to putting what else on it?

What kind of paint is this? Will it wash off in the rain? hehe

Seeing how much LadyV8 spends on a tiny bottle, I don't think it would come in on budget.

Well it might just be lacquer based paint, provides a decent finish but isn't particularly robus, I guess that could be damaged if you were to start faffing around with vinyls?

Water based paint gets a protective layer on top so maybe he is just trying to sell you that, without the layer, and then it will run off in the rain biggrin

It might be a single stage paint that already has the lacquer mixed into the colour....

He's maybe warning you that this paint could react with different solvent based paints, so apply logos and numbers etc. with stickers rather than painting them (though I don't know anyone that gets their competition car sign painted!). Might be enamel based paint I suppose - it's tough as old boots and gives a pretty good finish but takes bloody ages to dry.

Could be UHS solvent? which is a shiny basecoat, and only one stage of spraying after prepping... but in my opinion cheaper but not as good of a paint finish as you would get from lacquer, pretty strong stuff so unless he isn't prepping it much then I can't of why he would warn you about the sticker thing...
