Need MX5 non-runner transported from Maidstone to Liverpool
Discussion
Hello All,
I purchased a cat d, just slight cosmetic damage MX from Copart in RAMSGATE ROAD, SANDWICH, GB CT13 9NW.
.....It's near Maidstone in Kent........, and I needs to be delivered to Liverpool, L19 Postcode, right next to the main Liverpool John Lennon Airport, it's a 290 mile journey and the recovery guys are quoting silly money so I wonder if anyone is coming from this direction. I of course pay a decent fee to cover time and petrol for any help.
The car is a MX5 and it will push on to a trailer, but the car doesn't drive at present . Not sure what a MK1 weighs, but it will fit on to a standard car trailer.
Any ideas greatly appreciated...
Thanks
Henry

Why won't it run ? Why not get it patched up in Kent then drive it back, might work our much cheaper overall, it'll need fixing anyway won't it ?

Not too far away, and they have a good reputation.

Just to clarify - Sandwich is probably an hour ESE of Maidstone, particularly if you're driving a transporter of any description. Opposite direction from Liverpool!I purchased a cat d, just slight cosmetic damage MX from Copart in RAMSGATE ROAD, SANDWICH, GB CT13 9NW.

I've had a quote of £250 plus VAT so far, seems alot, but I suppose it's 290 miles!
The only cheaper option would be to get a trailer and drive there and back. Cheap option, if of dubious morality.
I know removing the radiator seems extreme, but the last time I called out the AA to my car it was because it had no rad and would only go 5 miles without overheating, and I was 40 miles from home. They just sent a flat bed truck straight away, no messing around with trying to fix it.

You can legally drive without tax and MOT to a pre-booked MOT appointment.
If it needs an MOT anyway eve better, book it in to a garage local to you. For a fraction of the cost of delivery it's home and MOT'd.
Make sure it is properly pre-booked and written in testers diary.
MOT station must be within a reasonable distance. You certainly cannot drive 290 miles for an MOT!If it needs an MOT anyway eve better, book it in to a garage local to you. For a fraction of the cost of delivery it's home and MOT'd.

OP, I have a Liverpool based vehicle transportation company (advertising in the Classifieds) and we would be charging £1.20 per mile plus VAT. £250 is for nothing. Bite their hand off.
You'll get better rates if the transporter is already going that way and can be loaded both ways (or double loaded in one direction). The problem with Shiply is it doesn't allow you to swap direct contact details (to stop you getting around their fees) so although you may get a cheap quote you can't ring the firm to find out when that quote is possible.
You could rent a beavertail or trailer and collect it yourself?
