I get the feeling the GT86/BRZ are going to be everywhere this year!

Sorry for the lack of info, I'm on my phone.

I think it's a Lexus V8? Looks like its sat quite nicely in there!

It's the V8 from an IS-F. The car is a drift car for the Japanese D1 drift championship being driven by Max Orido this year. Build thread below.

There's no footage of it in action - it's just sat in a garage at the build stage

Given the car's USP and the engine's origins you have to wonder why they haven't gone for FI?

A lot of the drift guys use GM V8s for ease, reliability and cost. They soak up a lot of punishment for not much money and the torque delivery is ideal for lighting tyres up.

That didn't take long, the car's only been out 5 minutes!

I think Toyota have given a few cars to tuning companies way before they went on sale. There's due to be 3 or 4 GT86's in D1 this year.

While I love the idea of more power for this car, I think a V8 might upset the delicate weight and handling balance somewhat. I'd prefer to see what someone could do with a nice lightweight V6 pushing about 300bhp. That would be perfect!

A V-anything sounds like a bad idea to me. The whole point of the boxer is that the CoG is very low.

How about a 997 GT3 flat-6? smile

Yes you are right but this is a no holds barred D1 car so I imagine quite a lot of modification has been done to make that engine fit. I was thinking more about what Toyota or Subaru could do with the standard model. I suspect Subaru at least will be releasing a higher power version at some point but I'd ideally like them to stick to a nice NA V6 rather than go the FI route.
