I noticed today that in one of the tread grooves of my front left tyre, the rubber has a slight crack in it, going all the way round.

Is this an MOT failure? The tyres are a couple of years old and otherwise have a decent amount of tread left.

I work for a much 'loved' tyre fitting place and sounds like it might be ok if no cords are showing or canvas, but MOT testers can be picky..

Id expect an advisory, if they notice. Of course, if they notice and its deep enough to expose cord, then itll fail.

Advisory.

To fail, the damage would need to be 25mm in length (or 10% of the section width, whichever is greater) and exposing the tyre structure i.e, cords, bandages, belt package etc.

Do you have a picture of the affected area?
