So I'm guessing School busses are fairly solid
Discussion
These yank busses are actually on a truck (lorry) chassis, i.e. massive H frame and if an unapproved (crash test) SUV or Pick-up hits one it's bound to come off worse...
SUVs and Pick-ups in the states are built as commercial vehicles and thus do not have to meet the stringent passenger vehicle crash test parameters which cars have to meet.... that's also why they're relatively cheap...and that's why they come off worse in an accident with a lorry/Schoolbus

They are built on a heavy duty chassis and are raised specifically for that reason, to keep the children above the impact zone.

I can't think of any car that would survive hitting those chassis rails at that angle and at a height well above the car's crumple zones. I imagine A pillars aren't designed for shearing loads.

Doesn't look like anyone sitting in the front would've survived that.
That crash was from years ago - the driver wasn't seriously injured. After a series of crashes, US school buses were redesigned to make them stronger. Hummers sold for domestic use aren't very robust.

This. The only solid part of the Hummer (ie the chassis) went under the bus.SUVs and Pick-ups in the states are built as commercial vehicles and thus do not have to meet the stringent passenger vehicle crash test parameters which cars have to meet.... that's also why they're relatively cheap...and that's why they come off worse in an accident with a lorry/Schoolbus
